We are delighted to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Fusion Labs and Akicorp Engineering, marking the beginning of a strategic partnership aimed at addressing Zambia’s pressing food security challenges.

Akicorp Engineering, led by CEO Ysaac Akinin, is renowned for its expertise in designing and implementing scalable food processing systems. With successful projects across Colombia, Bolivia, Namibia, and other countries, Akicorp brings a wealth of global experience that reflects its deep commitment to innovative food technology solutions.

This partnership comes at a pivotal time for Zambia, where the staple food – maize meal – has reached record inflation prices, making it increasingly difficult for many families to afford more than one meal a day. Together, Fusion Labs and Akicorp Engineering aim to establish processing plants that produce affordable, nutrient-rich alternative staple foods.

Beyond the immediate human suffering, malnutrition is imposing a significant economic burden on the nation. Akicorp’s economic models estimate that Zambia is currently losing billions of dollars in GDP annually due to reduced workforce productivity and escalating healthcare costs linked to poor nutrition.

Fusion Labs is committed to providing world-class analytical services and leading the research and development of nutrient-dense foods that are both organic and free from harmful chemical additives. This initiative aims to ensure that every Zambian has access to healthier staple food alternatives, thereby improving national well-being and driving economic growth.

We look forward to working closely with Akicorp Engineering and its network of food producers. We also extend our best wishes to Mr Akinin as he completes his PhD in chemical engineering.
